Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of impact or crushing injuries from falling objects: (a) Location - Station 1: On or about 4/6/04, employees were exposed to crushing and impact injuries from the "Spider" mold held by a one-ton Coffing hoist. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard include the following: 1. Use hooks provided with safety latches. 2. Ensure that employees do not work underneath the molds when supported by the hoist. 3. Have an engineer inspect the rack supporting the three hooks.
