Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment
and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed
to the hazard of:
(a)  Location - Patient Care Areas:
On or about 2/18/04, employees were exposed to contracting drug resistant
infections while giving
care to residents with infections such as, but not limited to
methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus
(MRSA).
Among other means, one feasible means of abatement including, but are not
limited to the following:
1. Provide training on all routes of transmission of infections, the
proper personal protective
equipment to be used and infection control practices to be utilized for
specific care procedures
depending on the different body systems infected.
2. Ensure that employee on-going training is up-to-date regarding the
status
of any resident with
infection prior to being assigned to give care.
