North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a toxic drug: a)facility, pharmacy - where an employee prepared cytarabine, a cytotoxic drug, in a horizontal laminar flow hood and on an open counter. Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to prepare written procedures for hazardous drug preparation and reduce hazardous drug aerosol exposure by following the OSHA and ASHP guidelines, including, but not limited to, using a vertical biological safety cabinet.al
