which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or were likely
to cause death or
serious physical harm to employees in that employee was operating an All
Terrain Vehicle,
without the personal protective equipment recommended by the
manufacturer,exposed to struck-
by hazards:
On or about 07/30/03,employees were exposed to the hazard of being
struck-by vegetation,
rocks, and fragments, while operating All Terrain Vehicle's (ATV's)
without adequate personal
protective equipment to protect the lower legs.
Among other methods of abatement, feasible and acceptable methods to
correct this hazard are:
(a) to follow the manufacture's recommendation for the use of personal
protective equipment
during the operation of the ATV's, and (b) to establish a program which
will
monitor and
enforce the use of personal protective equipment for employees that
operate the equipment.
PLEASE NOTE: DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS
VIOLATION.
