Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to pinch points and being caught between hazards: a.The employer did not ensure that the Automatic Powered Conveyor in the reject line area was operative and in good repair, exposing employees to being caught in the rollers and not being able to shut off the conveyor in the event of an emergency, on or about 01/21/04. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazard is to periodically inspect the entire conveyor mechanism, ensure that all safety devices are operative and in good repair, and provide emergency stop switches where potential hazards exist.
