Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed being struck-by projectiles in the event of a PVC pipe explosion. a.On or about 03/09/04, in the shop area, PVC pipe was used to transport compressed air at 110 psi into area where needed. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement to correct this hazard is to replaced the PVC pipes with an impact resistant Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) pipe. This is recommended by the plastic pipe institute for this purpose.
