Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to flying particles into bodies of employees due to the
hazard of compressed air
at pressure of 120 psi being transported by PVC pipe in the facility.  On
or about 03/22/04, in
the shop area PVC pipe was used to transport compressed air into area
where needed.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is
to replaced the PVC pipe with an impact resistant
Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) pipe.
This pipe is recommended by the plastic pipe institute for this purpose.
