Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:04/10/03 Location:Shop I Equipment:Ford-Smith Moveable Post Hoist, 9,000 Pounds Condition:The hydraulic vehicular lift was not inspected to ensure that the automatic engaging safety latch was fully functional. The safety latch would not engage due to dirt build-up and inadequate lubrication. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to inspect the lift according to ANSI/ALI ALOIM-2000 paragraph 5.6.2.16 and correct any found defects.
