Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment
which were free
from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or
serious physical harm
to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards:
(a)Front Range Reload/Hercules & 1400 W. Iliff, Denver, CO:  On or before
December 19, 2003, the employer did not ensure that employees operating
powered industrial trucks (forklifts) were wearing personal restraint
devices
(seat belts) during vehicle operation.  It was reported that forklift
operators did
not wear seat belts on a routine basis.  It was estimated that seat belts
were
worn approximately 50of the time.  This condition exposed employees to
the hazard of being ejected from a Hyster, Model H155 forklift and a
Caterpillar forklift, that were in use in the material handling yard.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement to correct is
to:
(a)Train/retrain employees in accordance with ASME/ANSI B56.1-2000 Safety
Standard for Low Lift and High Lift Trucks, section 5.3.19.
