General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling loads: Plating Room, Rasinoff Lines: The wire rope provided on the following skip hoists was badly worn due to improper reeving during use: A.C&S Ball Bearing Machine, hoist serial number 151RH. B.C&S Ball Bearing Machine, hoist serial number 650. Also, on both hoists, wire rope clips were not properly installed in that they were put on in opposite directions and they were located too close together. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: A.Repair the bent shaft on the top of each hoist to allow the sheave to travers and properly wind the wire rope during use. B.Replace the wire rope and properly install the wire rope clips using the proper number and spacing for the diameter of rope used. C.Conduct monthly, documented inspections of the running rope to determine if the ropes have worn beyond generally acceptable limits.ble
