General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to dust explosion hazards: Building 4, Cable Tray Spec Mate: Aluminum extrusions were de-burred using a wire wheel on a pedestal grinder, Machine 3021. Aluminum dust was collected into a Torit dust collector that was not designed in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association Standard 651 Machining and Finishing of Aluminum and the Production and Handling of Aluminum Powders - 1998. The dust collection system was located inside of the building, was connected with plastic duct work, contained a filter and did not capture all of the dust generated. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to design and install a dust collection system that meets the requirement of NFPA 651 to properly exhaust all aluminum dust that is generated. Implement a program of regular inspections and cleaning of the system. Abatement Certification is Not Required
