Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that an
employee was exposed to a fall hazard:
(a)On September 5, 2003 an employee failed to maintain a firm footing on
the platform floor of the JLG Manually Propelled Elevating Aerial
Platform (S/N 0900010342) exposing him to a fall of more than 22 feet
to the ground below.
Among others, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this
hazard
would be to not only provide training, as outlined in Section 8.10.1 of
the American
National Standard A92.3-1990, but also require platform operators to
remain on the
platform floor while using the lift.
Note: Abatement certification and supporting documentation are required
for this item.
