Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to the hazard of collapse:
(a) Residential construction site at Lot 27 Blk 8 Pepper Hill Subdivision:
Bonus room
above garage: Employees working in the general vicinity of trusses with a
23' span
that were not adequately braced.
(b) Residential construction site at Lot 27 Blk 8 Pepper Hill Subdivision:
Main
structure: Employees working in the general vicinity of trusses with a 32'
span that
were not adequately braced.
Note: Abatement certification and supporting documentation are required
for this
item.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this
hazard is to follow the guidelines set forth in HIB-91 summary sheet
commentary and
recommendations for handling, installing and bracing metal plate connected
wood
trusses published by the Truss Plate Institute.
