Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to fire and explosion hazards:
(a) On or about 11/29/03 and times prior thereto, the employer was using
the dry-off
oven, which is intended to dry water off the metal furniture parts, to dry
baffles used
in the paint line which were covered in flammable and/or combustible
paint.The oven
was not designed to be used as a means for drying flammable or combustible
materials. The oven was not used in accordance with NFPA 86 paragraph
6.2.8.1,
and NFPA 86 Chapter 9.
ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT:
The employer abated the violation by removing the paint line from
operation and
demolishing it.  The employer now uses a powder coating operation to cover
the
metal furniture pieces.
Note: Abatement certification or documentation is NOT required for this
item.
