Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to structural collapse: (a)Residential construction site, 4990 W. McMurtrey St., Meridian, Idaho: on February 25, 2004, employees were exposed to the hazard of structural collapse of the truss system, since top chord diagonal bracing, as a minimum, was not installed for the stability of the set trusses. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THE HAZARD IS TO FOLLOW THE GUIDANCE PROVIDED BY THE TRUSS PLATE INSTITUTE (HIB-91) SUMMARY SHEET FRAME 3 WHICH INSTRUCTS THAT TOP CHORD DIAGONAL BRACING BE INSTALLED TO PREVENT TRUSSES THAT ARE ONLY LATERALLY BRACED FROM BUCKLING AND COLLAPSING. (b)Residential construction site, 4990 W. McMurtrey St., Meridian, Idaho: on February 25, 2004, employees were exposed to the hazard of structural collapse of the truss system, since bottom chord temporary (or permanent) lateral and diagonal bracing was not installed. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THE HAZARDS IS TO FOLLOW THE GUIDANCE PROVIDED BY THE TRUSS PLATE INSTITUTE (HIB-91) SUMMARY SHEET FRAME 4 (BOTTOM CHORD PLANE) WHICH INSTRUCTS THAT LATERAL AND DIAGONAL TEMPORARY BRACING BE INSTALLED TO PREVENT STRUCTURAL COLLAPSE. Note: Abatement certification required for this item.
