Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employee(s) were exposed to the hazard of. a)Employees are exposed to the hazard of being crushed by a stump grinder (Model 1900). On 07/22/03, employees were attempting to reinstall the track on the stump grinder by using the Tree Cutter (T445-D) to raise the stump grinder so that logs could be positioned under it as jack stands. Employees were putting their hands and portions of their body under the disabled stump grinder which exposed them to crushing hazards. Among other methods to abatement, one feasible method would be to purchase and use air bladders to raise the disabled vehicle and have proper pre-made jack stands which could be positioned using positioning tools.
