Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to working on a elevated work platform without an emergency escape line: a) Mercer county/West Salem Township & James & Janet Lawrence 8 - On or about January 11, 2005 the Geronimo line was not installed for employees to use in case of an emergency evacuation from the derrick board. The derrick board was located fifty-five feet (55') above the ground. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to provide an emergency escape means (such as a Geronimo Line) for any employee working from the derrick board, as specified by Section 6.10.1 of the American Petroleum Institute (API) Standard RP 54-1999, "Recommended Practices for Occupational Safety and Health for Oil and Gas Well Drilling and Servicing Operations."
