Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish
employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
that employees were
exposed to:
The hazards associated with being struck by a collapsed section of a
heavily framed
residential wall.
Section 5(a)1: Among other procedures, one feasible and acceptable
abatement method to correct
the hazard is to follow the procedures, or come into compliance with the
American National
Standard Institute (ANSI) Safety Standards Minimum Design Loads for Other
Structures as
required by ANSI and the American Society of Engineeers (ASCE 7-95), for
requiremnts of
dead, live, soil, flood, wind, snow , rain, ice and earthquarke
combinations
that are suitable for
inclusion in building codes as referenced in section 6-1 "Wind Loads" as
found in the 1989
edition, Coucil of American Building Officials (CABO).
