Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hot surface hazards: Employees were exposed to potential skin burn injuries while working in congested areas around unguarded equipment such as the Unipress Hothead Press, Model #1236-A, SN #L6528837, with an outer casing at high temperatures. Among others, one possible means of abatement would be to contact the manufacturer, third party vendors, trade associations, peer employers, etc. on a means to insulate or guard the external surfaces of these steam-heated machines to prevent skin burns.
