employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment
and a place of employment which
was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to
employees:
a)battery servicing area -- the upper limit switch on a Coffing bottom
running crane was not
tested before each operator's shift.

tested prior to initial
use.

equipment shall
be tested to ensure the crane can sustain the applied loads.
NOTE:Among other methods of abatement of this hazard is to have the crane
inspected before placing it into service again.

a)battery servicing area -- the laod lifted by a 1 ton
Coffing bottom running hoist exceeded the maximum rated
load of the hoist.
Reference:Manufacturer's recommendation that hoists
will not be overloaded during a lift.
NOTE:Among other methods of abatement of this hazard is
to lift no more than the manufacturer's
recommended load capacity.
