Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of fire and explosion and exposure to a highly flammable and reactive chemical: a)Production Area: An uncontrolled reaction involving benzoyl peroxide occurred in a 40 cubic kilogram stainless steel container, during the manufacture of Iman Perfect Response Blemish Gel, on or about January 26, 2004. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable methods of abatement to correct this hazard include; handling chemicals in accordance with information given in the Material Safety Data Sheet, NFPA 432, Code for the Storage of Organic Peroxide Formulations and Current industry practice.ons
