Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by product falling from conveyors: a) Building 4, Module E (formerly Module 14) -- Sections of overhead conveyors were either inadequately guarded or not guarded where product could fall through and strike employees, on or about 7/14/03. b) Building 8, Put-away -- a carton of bleach on an overhead conveyor burst open, spilling the liquid onto employees passing underneath, on or about 6/17/03. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install and maintain spill guards, pan guards, or the equivalent where material may fall off the conveyor and endanger personnel. Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, the date and method of abatement, and state that employees and their representatives were informed of this abatement.
