North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and
Health Act of North
Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions
of employment and a
place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or
likely to cause death or
serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to:
crushed and/or struck by
hazards associated with lifting and moving heavy objects
a)On or about February 26, 2003, the following conditions occurred:
Facility - while
manually on/offloading a 900 pound Fire King fireproof file cabinet,
employees
were exposed to a crushed between and/or struck by hazard. One employee was
injured in the process.
Among other methods, some feasible and acceptable abatement methods to
correct this hazard would be to use mechanical lifting devices such as a
truck with
a lift tail-gate or a forklift, or have the cabinets delivered directly to
the customer
by the manufacturer.
