Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by falling I-beams, in that, I-beams were not secured to prevent displacement: (a)Shipyard, Slab - On July 28, 2003 I-beams (36" x 26'5", lifting plate structure) in an up-right position were not secured to the assembly jig to prevent displacement. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard: (i) Secure I-beams to prevent displacement.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to tripping hazards, in that, no safe means of egress from assembly jig was provided: (a)Shipyard, Slab - On July 28, 2003 assembly jig did not have safe means of egress. Aisles, passageways or walkways were not provided for employees. Employees are required to step over 14" high frame work of the assembly jig which is constructed in a grid pattern. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard: Provide walkways for access to and egress from the assembly jig.
