Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Tool Room, West Wall - The Perma PMC Workamatic vertical band saw was not equipped with a magnetic restarter or similar device as prescribed by the American National Standard for Metal Cutting Saws, ANSI B11.10 - 1990, Section 5.2.3.4, that in the event of an interruption in the electrical supply, would prevent the saw from restarting automatically when power is restored. (b) Tool Room, West Wall - The Perma PMC Workamatic vertical band saw was equipped with an unprotected, toggle type motor starter switch instead of a starter that is located, designed , constructed , interlocked or guarded to protect against unintended operation, as prescribed by the American National Standard for Metal Cutting Saws, ANSI B11.10 - 1990, Section 5.2.3.1. (c) Maintenance Department, West Wall - The Rongfu horizontal band saw, Serial Number B5- 71200-M, was not provided with a magnetic restarter or similar device as prescribed by the American National Standard for Metal Cutting Saws, ANSI B11.10 - 1990, Section 5.2.3.4, that in the event of an interruption in the electrical supply, would prevent the saw from restarting automatically when power is restored. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
