Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to hazards associated with inadequate lighting:
(a)Tripping, falling, and contacting hazardous equipment such as the chop
saw due
to inadequate lighting in the North Warehouse. On or about 03/03/04,
levels of
illumination measured in the North Warehouse were approximately 0.4 to 3.3
footcandles.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of correcting the
hazard
is to provide lighting, as recommended by ANSI/IESNA RP-7-01 Recommended
Practice for Lighting Industrial Facilities, at levels ranging from 10
footcandles
to 75 footcandles depending on the type operations performed in the North
Warehouse.
