General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were not protected from automatic restart of metal-cutting saws: The following saws did not have magnetic restart provisions: a) Kalamazoo Band Saw 824D, serial #18L39, in the Tool Room; b) DoAll Contour 16" Saw 1613-2, serial #150-60156, in the Tool Room; and c) Enco 360 Band Saw, mfg. #36577, in the Injection Molding Area (Plastics Area). ANSI B11.10 (1990), Section 4.2.3.4 states that "in the event of an interruption in the electrical power supply, the machine shall not restart automatically when power is restored". A feasible means of abatement would be to install a motor control device or magnetic restart to prevent automatic restart after an interruption in the power supply, as required by ANSI B11.10 (1974). CERTIFICATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THESE ITEMS.
