What this inspection record means

OSHA opens inspections for many reasons — routine scheduling under a national or local emphasis program, an employee complaint or referral, or a follow-up after a reported injury. Opening or conducting an inspection is not itself an allegation or a finding that this employer broke any rule; any findings appear as the citations listed below, and citations can be contested, reduced, or withdrawn.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish
a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were
likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were not protected
from automatic
restart of metal-cutting saws: The following saws did not have magnetic
restart provisions:
a) Kalamazoo Band Saw 824D, serial #18L39, in the Tool Room; b) DoAll
Contour 16" Saw
1613-2, serial #150-60156, in the Tool Room; and c) Enco 360 Band Saw,

would be to install a
motor control device or magnetic restart to prevent automatic restart
after an interruption in the
power supply, as required by ANSI B11.10 (1974). CERTIFICATION OF
ABATEMENT IS
REQUIRED FOR THESE ITEMS.
