Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to unguarded hoistway-landing opening The elevator was not installed in accordance with the American National Standard for Elevators and Escalators (ASME A17.1-2000). Deficiencies include, but may not be limited to the following sections: 2.11.1.1 The hoistway-landing shall be guarded the full height and width of the opening. A Feasible means of abatement for this hazard would be to install a door at the hoistway-landing in accordance with ASME A17.1-2000. CERTIFICATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM.
