Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard being caught in an overturned crane due to inadequate footing under outrigger pads. Rockford, IL. Jobsite - On or about May 28, 2004 employee was operating a hydraulic crane without placing cribbage beneath 3 of 4 support plates attached to outriggers. Feasible methods of abatement include: Comply with the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) B30.5 for Mobile and Locomotive Cranes, Section 5-3.4.6 and provide level footing by the use of timbers, cribbing, or other structural material to distribute the load so as not to exceed the allowable bearing capacity of the underlying material.
