Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to struck and/or crushed by hazard:
a) Work site, River road, Burlington, NJ - The employer did not take
adequate
precautions to assure that all employees stay clear from working under
ready mix
concrete truck chutes during concrete pouring operations. On or about
12/15/03.
AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD
TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD WOULD BE TO:
1) Develope and implement a minimum safe distance program while working
along side
concrete chutes.
2) Provide training for employees to recognize and avoid unsafe conditions
such
as, but,
not limited to not working under ready mix concrete truck chutes while
concrete is being
poured.
