Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of fire and explosion: a) 15 Bradford Ave. West Orange, NJ Employee(s) were exposed to hazard of an explosion of compressed fuel gas cylinders which leaked and filled the enclosed area of the truck storage panels. The cylinders were transported and stored with the trigger start torches connected to the cylinders. The torches remained attached to the fuel gas cylinders when not being used, this, in contradiction to the manufacturer's requirements. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to store the compressed fuel gas cylinders in an open vented area with the torches removed. Violation observed on or about 11/07/03
