Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards while readjusting boat stands on stored boats. Yard: The two Yard Hands were exposed to potentially fatal crushing hazards as a result of the company hat having in place safe operating procedures for readjustment of boatstands in the event of displacement of a boat. One method, among other methods, to correct the hazard is develop a standard operated procedure to provide proper support for the boats prior to resetting the boat stands, and to train employees on these procedures.
