General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards from working under suspended loads: (a)Processing Area, 6375 AVRR, Pittsburgh, PA: On or about 9/16/03 employees were exposed to crushing hazards from working under a suspended vehicle. The employees were using propane and oxygen torches to burn off the catalytic converters and gas tanks while the vehicle was suspended on the forks of the Fiat Allis FR10 front end loader, serial number 21C06553, 545-B. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to use the racks to hold the vehicles to be processed and not to permit the use of the Fiat Allis front end loader to suspend the load.nd
