Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of unguarded steam pipes. a)In the Sixty Minute Cleaners Store on Cottage Hill Ave in Mobile, AL: AT the steam presser: pipes carrying steam to the press machine were not insulated to prevent employee contact with the hot surface. Among other means, one feasible method to correct this hazard is to comply with ANSI Z8.1- 1972, American National Standard Safety Requirements for Commercial Laundry and Dry Cleaning Equipment and Operations, Section 4, Paragraph 4.1.5 which states,"all rigid steam pipes within 7 feet of the floor or working platform with which a person may come into contact during the normal operation of any equipment shall be insulated or otherwise guarded so as to prevent burn hazards".
