Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hazard of being struck by falling loads: a. By Flammable Storage --- Employees were exposed to being struck by falling loads from the "Shop Made" below the hook lifting device, used on the 500 lb Demag overhead hoist, to lift spools of wire rope. b. Re-Spool Area --- Employees were exposed to being struck by falling loads from the "Shop Made" below the hook lifting device, used on the 1/2 ton overhead hoist, to lift spools of wire rope. ABATEMENT NOTE: A feasible and acceptable method of abatement, among others, is to comply with the recommendations of American National Standard ANSI/ASME B30.20, 1985, Below-the-Hook Lifting Devices. This standard provides for a nameplate or permanent markings for the identification of the manufacturer, lift capacity, or serial number of each lifting device along with conducting inspections of the lifting device (an initial inspection prior to use, frequent inspections, or periodic inspections).
