Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falls: a.Site - Workers were standing on a platform which had been elevated by the forks of a Trojan 1900Z loader, exposing them to a fall to the ground. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement is to not permit workers to be elevated by the lift unless: (1) The manufacturer approves the use of the machine for lifting personnel; and (2) The platform being used complies with the requirements of American National Standards Institute (ANSI) B56.6.
