Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards while on the top of the milk trucks: (a)Intake Bays; employee(s) accessed the top of the stainless steel bulk milk trucks to take a sample of the milk and to place the CIP (Clean In Place) washer in the manhole and to take it out again. AMONG OTHER METHODS, FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHODS TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD INCLUDE; BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: 1.Design, install and implement a fall arrest system consisting of an appropriate anchorage point, retractable lanyard and body harness. 2.Use a portable ladder/platform to access the truck top and provides a guard railed working area around the manhole. 2.Install a work platform with appropriate guardrails.
