Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of crushing and/or impalement due to roll-over(s) while operating riding mowers: a)Northern facing slope of hill in front of E6300 628th St. Menomonie, WI: Employee(s) were mowing on a hill at an angle of approximately 28 to 36 degrees, resulting in the mower rolling over backwards. The maximum safe angle for this equipment to operate at was 15 degrees, as per the manufacturer's Operator's Manual. Abatement Notes: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to use equipment to mow slopes as recommended by the manufacturer. Abatement Certification and Documentation required for this item.
