Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to fall hazards while climbing storage racks
without being provided
equipment to access elevations up to 10 feet.
(a)St. Croix Casino, 777 US Hwy 8, Turtle Lake, WI:  Employees climbed
storage racking to access boxes of records needed for auditing in a manner
contrary to the manufacturers warning, which states that the units are "NOT
MADE FOR CLIMBING".
Abatement Notes:
Among other methods,two feasible and acceptable methods readily available
to correct this
hazard are:
1.To follow the manufacturers warning, which states "not made for
climbing".
2.Use equipment such as a mobile ladder-stand tall enough to access the
records
and maneuverable enough to get down the aisles and from room to room.
Abatement certification and documentation required for this item.
