Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: employees were exposed to crushing or struck-by hazards in the event of hoist failure. The hoists above the Automatic Barrel Zinc Line, among others, used by employees did not have: 1. Annual inspections being completed on a periodic basis. 2. The hooks on hoists 10 and 11 did not have safety latches. Among others feasible abatement includes but is not limited to: 1. Establishment of an inspection program in accordance with American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B30, Chapter 16-2. 2. Installation of safety latches on hooks in accordance with ASME B30. 16-1.2.9. 3. Replace wire rope on hoist in accordance with the criteria in ASME 16- 2.4.2. Certification, with date and method of abatement required. Certification of abatement is required by 29 CFR Part 1903 and is to be submitted within ten (10) calendar days after the abatement date.ment
