Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to being struck by metal parts while unloading the part off
the lathe.  The jog
spindle button and spindle start button are in close proximity to each
other.  Among other
methods, one feasible and acceptable means to correct this hazard is to
recess one of the buttons
so operators know exactly which button is being depressed.
NOTE:  Reference ANSI B11.6 - 2001, 6.14.1 (d) in that the controls shall
be protected from
unintentional operation by normal movement of the machine operator or flow
of work pieces,
material, or tooling.
