Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 : The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that :
employees were exposed to crushing injuries and broken bones caused by
inadequately
braced 30 foot wide wood truss.
Building 2500 -  The contractor did not follow the industry recognized
standards of
BCSI - B1 Summary Sheet - Guide for Handling, Installing and Bracing of
Metal
Plate Connected Wood Trusses which was furnished by the truss manufacturer
requiring temporary diagonal bracing on the top and bottom cord of 30 foot
wide
truss in that there was no temporary diagonal in place on the top or
bottom cord of
the truss installed as determined on May 24, 2005.
AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE
ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO FOLLOW THE
RECOMMENDATIONS PROVIDED BY THE TRUSS MANUFACTURER AND
DEVELOPED BY THE TRUSS PLATE INSTITUTE AND INSTALL
TEMPORARY DIAGONAL BRACING OF THE TRUSS TOP CORD.
