General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a)In the repair shop, hydraulic jacks #6 and #8 were in need of repair. These lifts have air and oil leaks. b)In the repair shop, there were eight (8) hydraulic jacks involved in constant or intermittent use at one locality which should be inspected once every six (6) months. The employer could not produce an inspection record for hydraulic jack #8. One method of abatement to correct these apparent hazards is to service the hydraulic lifts as required by ANSI B30.1 - 1975, Section 1-2.1 through 1-2.3. Abatement verification is required for this violation. The abatement certification sheet is enclosed with the citation(s).
