Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards: Employee(s) using hydraulic driven mechanical automotive lifts in bays 5 and 6 were exposed to crushing hazards due to the safety latches not being maintained in an operable condition for the continued safe operation of the lifts. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to develop and implement procedures for the periodic inspection and preventive maintenance of the automotive lifts as referenced by the manufacturer instructions and ANSI/ALI ALCTV-1998 (Safety Requirements for Construction, Testing, and Validation for Automotive Lifts) 29 CFR 1903.19(c)(2) abatement of the above violation was verified at the time of inspection, no certification is required.
