Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling load hazards: The cage type special purpose elevator(manlift) used at the grain elevator did not have the hoistway doors safety interlock switches operating, in that, they were completely disconnected and allowed the manlift to operate with the doors open. Employees exposed to fallind load hazards. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: Have the manlift door interlocks inspected ang repaired by a qualified compenet person and implementing an inspection program recommended by ASME A17.1-1996,rule 1501.2. 29 CFR 1903.19(c)(1) requires certification that the abatement of the above violation is completed.
