5(a)(1): Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: the employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees. Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: the employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to electric shock hazards. Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter protection for personnel was not provided as required in the following areas and operations where employees work with electrical equipment with wet and damp surfaces and hands: A) The electrical receptacles in the Waterford kitchen; B) The electrical receptacle located above the wet bar sink in the bar storage area next to the Waterford kitchen; C) The electrical receptacle located above the sink in the hair salon dispensary; D) The electrical receptacles located within 6 feet of the hair shampoo sink stations in the hair salon; E) Electrical receptacles located at all hairstylist stations in the spa where employees work with wet and damp operations, such as colorings and perms, and electrical hand tools and equipment are in use. Feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard would be to install GFCI protected receptacles or circuit breakers in accordance with the manufactures recommendations and the National Electrical Code - 2002 edition, Article 210.8 Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter Protection for Personnel.
