North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to: a)fall to a lower levels. Workers on mobile scaffolds in the Production Area around and below the perimeter of aircraft were using portable stepladders to increase the working level height thereby placing the worker well above the 42 inch height of the guardrails installed on the scaffolds to protect employees. Employees were exposed to falls from 6 feet to 40 feet. NOTE: Among others, one feasible and acceptable method of abating this violation is to build the scaffold platform to the height necessary to reach the level needed.

North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to: a)falls to a lower level. The personnel platform in the Production Area, used to elevate personnel to sections of aircraft and supported by a Hyster forklift truck was not firmly secured to the lifting carriage or forks of the truck {Ref. American National Standards Institute (ANSI) B56.1-1969, Safety Standards for Powered Industrial Trucks}. Employees were exposed to falls of up to 40 feet. NOTE: Among others, one feasible and acceptable method of abating this violation is to repair the latching mechanism at the end of the platform next to the mast.
