Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees
in that
employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by moving motor
vehicles while
conducting pre-departure truck cargo inspections:
a.On or about December 20, 2004, at the AutoZone Distribution Center
security
gate's departing truck lane, employees were exposed to a moving motor
vehicle during a pre-departure inspection of a cargo trailer.  Adequate
separation was not maintained between a cargo truck being inspected and
another truck waiting to advance to the pre-departure inspection position
in
accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices(MUTCD)
Parts 6B-3 and 6D-2; Fundamental Principles and Worker Safety
Considerations.
Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct
this hazard are
to, designate a safe area for cargo truck operators to wait in their
respective trucks before
advancing to the pre-departure inspection lane, and the application of
posted signs and
pavement markings in accordance with MUTCD, Part 6B-03 - Fundamental
Principles and
MUTCD Part 6D-2 Worker Safety Considerations.
