Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a):  The employer did not
furnish employment
and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that
were causing or
likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees:
(a)Date of Violation:04/06/04
Location:East/Southeast Side of Building, Outside of Cafeteria
Condition:An employee who climbed a 28 foot Louisville fiberglass extension
ladder below a 168 pound air conditioning condensing unit being pulled
up the side rails of the ladder to the roof, using two 1/2 ton rope block
and tackles, was not protected from being struck by the unit or falling
from the ladder in the event it was displaced during the operation.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard
is to use a material hoist or lift to place the condensing unit on the
roof and to ensure that no
one is below the load while being lifted.
Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs,
training
certification, etc.) is required for this item.
