The employer failed to ensure that employees were performing work while
maintaining firm
footing on floor of scissors lifts, as follows:
a.In building "G" of Shea Professional Office Plaza, employee working while
standing on mid-rail of guard rail system in Genie Scissors Lift, Model
GS-2668
RT, S/N ML 8796. This exposed employee to a fall hazard of 10 feet 4 inches
to the ground.
b.In building "G" of Shea Professional Office Plaza, employee working while
standing on mid-rail of guard rail system and working while standing on a
2x6
plank placed across the mid-rails. This exposed employee to a fall hazard
of 10
feet 4 inches to the ground.
Reference: ANSI A92.6-1990/7.11.1 (Personnel Footing) - Personnel shall
maintain a firm footing on the platform floor while working thereon. Use of
planks, ladders, or any other device on the aerial platform for achieving
additional height or reach is prohibited.
One feasible and acceptable abatement method is to make sure that every
employee assigned to work from the aerial lifts, prior to beginning work,
are
trained in the requirements of ANSI A92.6-1990.
